Is the 2026 Honda Prelude on its way to PH?

Honda Cars Philippines has had a relatively quiet 2025 with just one model launch so far, but things could point to the brand bringing the noise before the year ends.

The automaker has received approval for a passenger vehicle with a 1,993cc gasoline engine, which matches the displacement of the 2.0-liter e:HEV powertrain that’s found in models such as the CR-V and the Civic.

Those models already exist in the local lineup of HCPI, and both are yet to be ripe for another update. Likewise, the new regulatory approval also points to the car having a weight of 1,566 kg, which somehow matches a typical vehicle in a C-segment class platform. So what could this mystery vehicle be?

Well, our crystal ball says it’s likely to be the all-new Prelude. Launched in Japan earlier this month, the returning nameplate reclaims its place in the Honda lineup as a two-door coupe that features the e:HEV technology in a sporty package.

The all-new Prelude is based on the Civic platform, sharing the 2.0-liter e:HEV with the standard Civic, but has the Dual Axis strut front suspension, adaptive dampers, and Brembo brakes of the hotter Type R variant. The powertrain is also made sportier and mimics the behavior of an 8-speed automatic transmission through the Honda S+ Shift function.

Last year, HCPI already started posting about the all-new Prelude on its social media pages, but it never truly confirmed anything about the particular model. But now, the timing looks right for the Prelude to enter the Philippine market since the Civic Type R is about to drive off into the sunset.

The inventory void that will be left by the outgoing Civic Type R could very well be filled by the all-new Prelude. While it’s not a direct successor to the model, this somehow aligns with Honda’s electrification direction without losing the signature sportiness that Honda models have always been known for.

However, the biggest question will be the price positioning of the all-new Prelude once it makes its way here. In Japan, it carries quite a hefty premium over models such as the Toyota GR86, Subaru BRZ, and Mazda MX-5 as it retails for about JPY 6.2 million or PHP 2.4 million at current exchange rates.

It certainly wouldn’t make sense if the Prelude ends up more expensive than the outgoing Civic Type R. So if we’re being optimistic with the pricing logic, we’ll be surprised if Honda PH could offer the Prelude at under PHP 3 million.
