Official: All-new Mitsubishi Strada will be called Triton in PH

The 60th-anniversary expo of Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) has just started, but they immediately began things with a big announcement about their all-new pickup truck.

MMPC president Takeshi Hara said we should expect a grand launch of the all-new Mitsubishi Triton in the coming months. And yes, it will no longer be called the Strada. Instead, MMPC will also adopt the Triton global name.

While some may see Mitsubishi moving away from name recall, most of the global markets already recognize the Strada as the Triton, as the manufacturer has given the name to the pick-up truck ever since the fourth-generation model was introduced in 2005.

To add to the excitement, MMPC even has the XRT Concept on display at the World Trade Center. Essentially, it's the pre-production version of the all-new Triton, complete with the new 4N16 twin-turbo diesel.

The Thai-spec Triton in Athlete form appears to be a match to the likes of the next-generation Ford Ranger Wildtrak and the Toyota Hilux Conquest based on our 4x4 spec check. And since the PH-bound units will be coming from Thailand, we should expect more or less the same amount of features and equipment.

While we're waiting for the official model to arrive, you can check out the XRT Concept in the metal from today until Sunday (August 13) at Mitsubishi's 60th-anniversary expo at the World Trade Center Manila. As to when the all-new Triton will arrive, it will be making its way here come January 2024.
