Mitsubishi PH launching Montero Sport facelift in 2024?
Mitsubishi PH has an approval for a passenger vehicle with 4N15 engine

Last week, images of the facelifted third-generation Mitsubishi Montero Sport were leaked on the internet – fueling speculation that the brand is looking to extend the model cycle as they continue working on the all-new model that’s based on the new Triton pickup truck.
Sightings like this will always get us curious if it will make its way to the country. After all, the third-generation Montero Sport might still be selling well in the market, but it’s already in need of an update.

As it stands, we were able to get new information that further points to signs that Mitsubishi Motors Philippines could indeed bring in the facelifted Montero Sport to the country.
Mitsubishi PH has received an approval for a passenger vehicle with a 2.4-liter diesel engine with a curb weight of 2090 kg. Usually, vehicles of this engine and weight point out to a ladder-frame SUV. However, the kicker is that the exact displacement of the engine is 2442cc. Upon running the numbers, the 2442cc displacement points out to the older 4N15 engine since the 4N16 of the all-new Triton has a displacement of 2439cc.

This means, if Mitsubishi PH brings in the facelifted Montero Sport, it’s likely to have the same running gear – the 2.4-liter 4N15 MIVEC diesel that puts out 181 PS and 430 Nm of torque paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission or a 6-speed manual.
Based on our reviews, the 4N15 can still hold its own against newer competition. However, where the third-generation Montero Sport is clearly behind against its rivals is when it comes to interior features – specifically its aging infotainment screen. Hopefully, Mitsubishi PH includes it to the model refresh to keep the SUV competitive while waiting for the all-new model.
As for its launch, it might be too early to say for now. Perhaps, a regional debut at the 2024 Bangkok International Motor Show might be in the cards before Mitsubishi PH brings it in the country.
