LEAKED: Are you the 2024 Mitsubishi Montero Sport facelift?

When Mitsubishi Motor Philippines Corporation (MMPC) officially launched the all-new Triton earlier this year, all of us at AutoIndustriya.com had the same question, when can we expect the all-new Montero Sport to make its official debut?

Given that the debut of the all-new pickup essentially signaled that Mitsubishi will eventually reveal the next-generation pickup platform vehicle (PPV), we cannot help but feel excited about its big debut. However, based on the automaker’s current timeline, it looks like we’ll have to wait until 2025 as Mitsubishi will reveal a next-generation midsize SUV next year.

Now, leaked pictures of what looks like the refreshed 2024 Mitsubishi Montero Sport have made their way onto the web - further fueling speculation that the automaker may not yet be ready to reveal an all-new model. In addition, this could be the frame-based SUV’s second facelift for the third generation.

Posted on Instagram not too long ago, the midsize SUV appears to have a redesigned front end. It gets a refreshed grille and lower air intake design that looks to have wide honeycomb-like inserts. If anything, it seems the supposedly updated SUV will have an Xpander-inspired makeover. The LED headlights & daytime running lights also appear to have been slightly tweaked for its upcoming refresh.

Speaking of Xpander, the midsize SUV will also likely get a new set of alloy wheels that looks to have been inspired by the brand’s popular MPV. With their turbine-like design, they give the Montero Sport a sportier and more youthful vibe. We have yet to see pictures of its rear end although Mitsubishi could introduce some changes to the LED taillights, tailgate design, and perhaps also the rear bumper.

Under the hood, the 2024 Montero Sport update might get the new 2.4-liter 4N16 turbo-diesel engine. With it, the top-of-the-line version may get the two-stage bi-turbo system that delivers 204 PS and 470 Nm of torque. Meanwhile, lesser versions could likely get the single turbo version that puts out a respectable 183 PS and 430 Nm of pull. Transmission options will likely be an 8-speed automatic and a 6-speed manual.

With the 2024 Bangkok International Motor Show happening in just a couple of weeks, will Mitsubishi hold the regional debut of the updated Montero Sport (AKA Pajero Sport) at the annual auto show? Watch this space.
