Mini debuts 2025 Cooper hatch with ICE power

Late last year, Mini entered a new era for its iconic hatchback with the debut of the all-new Mini Cooper. Back then, they only revealed the all-electric Cooper E and Cooper SE variants that came in both 3 and 5-door configurations.

Now it’s time for the familiar ICE models to take center stage, as Mini has revealed the new gas-powered Cooper C and Cooper S models.

On the outside, the ICE-powered Mini Cooper does not stray far from its all-electric variant with the minimalist design. The obvious difference between the gas-powered variant from the electric one is the bigger grille opening on the front fascia, which also features a different mesh pattern to let more air in and cool the engine.

Inside, the gas-powered Mini Cooper has some slight differences compared to the electric model. It gets the same 9.4-inch round LED infotainment screen, but the A/C vents have been tilted horizontally, along with more conventional interior door handles.

Much like the all-electric version, the gas-powered Mini Cooper is being offered in two variants – the base Cooper C and the sportier Cooper S. The variants themselves are also done in four trims – the Essential, Classic, Favoured, and JCW.

The Cooper C is powered by a 1.5-liter, three-cylinder turbo unit that puts out 156 PS and 230 Nm of torque, while the Cooper S has the bigger 2.0-liter, four-cylinder turbo that produces 204 PS and 300 Nm of torque. Mini did not specify the transmission for both variants, but we won’t be surprised if they carry over the dual-clutch transmission from the previous generation.

Depending on the variant, customers have lots of customization options to choose from. Apart from the exterior paint, wheel sizes range from 16 to 18 inches with different wheel designs. There are also four roof colors to choose from, and even a three-color gradient roof paint option for the Favoured trim.

Meanwhile, the convertible and five-door versions of the ICE-powered Mini Cooper will make their way at a later date.

Unlike the Cooper E and SE that are being built in China through the joint venture of BMW Group and Great Wall Motor, the all-new Cooper C and S will be manufactured at Mini’s Oxford plant. Production of the S is scheduled to start in March, while the C model will begin around July this year.
