GWM Tank 300 priced around PHP 2.6M, available Nov 2023

Earlier this year, GWM distributor Luxuriant Automotive Group Inc. officially launched its initial salvo of vehicles for the Philippine market. The initial lineup includes the Haval H6, the Jolion, and the Cannon pickup truck.

With multiple segments covered, GWM Philippines wants to get a slice of the Philippine automotive pie. But the automaker wants a bigger slice and they are looking to attract a new set of customers, the 4x4s community.

Say hello to the Tank 300, and it's a bonafide 4x4 machine ready for off-the-beaten-path adventures. Now being previewed for the Philippine market, the Tank 300 gets the classic (or old school) formula look of SUVs of yesteryear with its boxy profile, angular edges, round LED headlights, chunky overfenders, rear spare tire carrier, and prominent bumpers.

Size-wise, the Tank 300 measures 4760mm long, 1930mm wide, 1903mm tall, and has a 2750mm wheelbase. Off-road enthusiasts will be happy to know the Tank 300 comes with 224mm of ground clearance, 700mm of water wading depth, approach/departure angles of 33 degrees & 34 degrees, accordingly, and a front/rear wheel track of 1,608mm. Last but not least is its suspension system which consists of a double wishbone front and a multi-link (non-independent) rear.

Need to tow something with the Tank 300? GWM says it has a braked towing capacity of 2500 kg while its unbraked towing capacity is rated at 750 kg. It also has a curb weight of 2155 kg and a gross vehicle weight of 2552 kg.

At the heart of the Tank 300 is a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine that is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission by ZF. It puts out 220 PS at 5500 rpm along with a generous 380 Nm of torque between 1800 – 3800 rpm. True to its go-anywhere capability, it has a 4WD system complete with front & rear locking differentials to help it get across challenging terrains with ease.

It even gets an all-terrain mode selector, crawl control, and tank (turn) assist. Complementing the intelligent 4WD system are 265/65/R17-inch all-terrain tires.

Despite its go-anywhere nature, the Tank 300 greets its occupants with a high-tech cabin. The dashboard features a pair of 12.3-inch screens – one is the digital instrument panel while the other is the touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto & Apple CarPlay.

There's also LED ambient lighting, a 9-speaker Infinity sound system, a 360-degree camera system, a wireless charging pad, a sunroof, and a cooling box.

Other amenities include; a microfiber-leather steering wheel, Nappa leather seats, a 220V power outlet with a trailer power outlet, steering wheel paddle shifters, steering-responsive front/rear foglights, and an intelligent start/stop system for better fuel economy.

GWM Philippines is now accepting reservations for the Tank 300. In addition, the automaker is looking to price it around PHP 2.6 million. It will be officially available around November 2023.
