Bangkok 2024: Mitsubishi Montero Sport facelift makes public debut

Last week, Mitsubishi Motors Thailand revealed the 2024 Pajero Sport. More commonly known as the Montero Sport here in the country, the third-generation PPV gets a few more updates before the all-new model takes its place in 2025.

For this year’s Bangkok International Motor Show, Mitsubishi Motors Thailand has given the facelifted Pajero Sport its public debut.

Revealed in BIMS in the Elite Edition variant, the Pajero Sport wears the reworked grille in front with the honeycomb patterns. As part of the Elite Edition package, the Pajero Sport wears black 18-inch wheels, and has a gloss black roof. Quite simply, the Elite Edition could be our first look at what could be the new Montero Sport Black Series in the country.

Inside, the Pajero Sport gets the new digital instrument cluster that looks to have the same graphics as the upcoming XForce crossover. The steering wheel also looks familiar as it’s similar to the all-new Triton.

Under the hood, the Pajero Sport is powered by the new 2.4-liter 4N16 “Hyper Power” MIVEC turbo diesel engine that’s good enough for 184 PS and 430 Nm of torque. Yes, it’s does not have the biturbo diesel of the all-new Triton, so perhaps they are reserving that engine for the next-generation Pajero Sport. What it gets though is the Triton’s 6-speed automatic transmission.

However, it looks like we won’t be getting this engine once the facelifted Montero Sport arrives in the country based on insider information. Even so, the 4N15 is still good enough against newer competition. Where the Montero Sport needs to keep up is in the features side, and it looks like MMPC is focusing on that.

While the updated Pajero Sport has made its regional debut at BIMS, a reliable source has told us that the facelifted Montero Sport could make its way in the country by around the latter part of the year.
