2026 BMW iX3 can do up to 800 km, 400kW maximum charging

BMW gave us a glimpse of the all-new iX3 when they released an image of a near-series production model of the next-generation EV last year. Despite being covered with a camouflage livery, it's clear that the all-new iX3 gets its design from the Neue Klasse X Concept.

Now, the automaker has begun real-world testing of the iX3 prototypes. In fact, the automaker recently announced that several examples are currently undergoing extensive testing in Miramas, Southern France. However, BMW is also proud to announce that the all-new iX3 will have a longer range, faster charging, and a new operating system that will be shown via an all-new display.

“Longer range, faster charging, an all-new display and operating concept, and the intelligence of four superbrains are the distinguishing features of the Neue Klasse. With the upcoming BMW iX3 – the first model of the new car generation – we are introducing fundamental technology upgrades with the clear aim of raising the typical BMW driving pleasure to a whole new level,” said Mike Reichelt, Head of Neue Klasse BMW.

What new technologies and features can we expect from the all-new iX3? For starters, BMW says the sixth-generation powertrain sets a new standard when it comes to efficiency and range. The BMW iX3 M50 xDrive is rated to have an electric range of up to 800 km based on the WLTP cycle. In addition, its ability to support 400 kW charging means a 10-minute recharge translates to over 350 km of range.

Its ability to quickly charge the battery is made possible thanks to a new 800V architecture that supports ultra-fast recharging. However, the system also supports the lower 400V DC charging systems. The iX3 will also feature bi-directional charging via a vehicle-to-load (V2L) that's rated up to 3.7 kW, a vehicle-to-grid (V2G), and a vehicle-to-home (V2H).

As mentioned earlier, the all-new iX3 will also feature new technologies such as BMW Panoramic iDrive. It consists of four elements; BMW Panoramic Vision in which information is projected onto a black printed surface in windshield from A-pillar to A-pillar, a 3D Heads-up Display that will sit above the Panoramic Vision display, a Central Display with matrix blacklight technology that will be displayed near the steering wheel, and Shy-Tech multi-function steering wheel wherein buttons are illuminated when functions are available and will feature haptic feedback.

Last but not least, the BMW Panoramic iDrive system will run on the latest OS X, which the automaker claims will offer extensive customizability, intelligent support for the driver, and extensive software updates.
