The last two rounds of the 2014 Audi R8 LMS Cup will take place at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi from December 12 to 13, 2014. The Abu Dhabi event replaces the previously planned support races for the German Touring Car Championship (DTM) that was supposed to take place on September 27 to 28, 2014 at Guangzhou, China. According to DTM, the cancellation of the said event was due to organizational uncertainties.
"The Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi with its state-of-the-art facilities right next to the seashore is an excellent location for our 2014 season finale. With the addition of Abu Dhabi, all our races this season will be on Formula 1 circuits. The series’ debut in the Middle East continues the expansion of the Cup in Asia and will be an exciting experience for all drivers, teams and fans,” said Rene Koneberg, Director of Audi Sport Customer Racing Asia.
There are still 8 rounds left in the race with the next event to take place at the Sepang International Circuit on August 16 to 17, 2014. Malaysian racer Alex Yoong, who won the 4th round at the Fuji International Speedway, is currently the leader in overall standings with 65 points while Swiss GT Specialist Raphael Frey is at second place with 60 points. At third place is Chinese racer Cheng “Franky” Congfu who currently has 48 points.
