WTCC 2013: Chilton and Tarquini win at Sonoma Raceway
Two popular drivers are WTCC winners in California

Sonoma Raceway hosted two WTCC races where Tom Chilton claimed victory in Race 1 while Gabriele Tarquini claimed victory in Race 2.
In Race 1, Chilton was driving one of the RML Chevrolet Cruze. For the first time in his WTCC career, he was able to qualify for the pole position. That pole position later materialized as his first WTCC victory too, leaving driver Tiago Monteiro behind.
While in Race 2, Tarquini had a comeback to the winner’s circle following his first victory about 5 months ago. With his win, Honda earned the Manufacturer’s title with three race meetings left.

Other drivers also showed good performances in California. Alex MacDowall and Mehdi Bennani shared victories in the Yokohama Trophy, and also claimed 4th place in Race 1 and 2nd place in Race 2 for MacDowall and Bennani respectively.
Yvan Muller comes another step closer to his fourth WTCC Driver’s Championship. However, Tarquini’s victory may still play a factor in denying him the title. With a 143-point margin, other drivers have a lot of catching up to do to overtake Muller.
The championship resumes on September 22 for rounds 19 and 20 at Suzuka, Japan.
