Toyota announces motorsports plans for 2019, will see the Supra race in Nurburgring, NASCAR

Toyota had quite a successful year last 2018 with regards to motorsports. In 2018 alone, Toyota’s motorsport division managed to finally win the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and even win the World Rally Championship. More recently however, Toyota also clinched overall victory at the grueling Dakar Rally. So this 2019 season, expect more things to come for the Toyota and its motorsports division.

The automaker recently outlined their motorsports activities for the 2019 season. In Super GT, Toyota will continue to be fielding the LC500 rather than the Supra. Lexus Gazoo Racing will be racing 6 LC500s in the GT500 division. Meanwhile, in the GT300 class, Toyota Gazoo Racing will be racing 2 units of the new Toyota Prius PHV apr GT and Lexus will be fielding 3 units of the RC F GT3. Toyota will also be supplying the 2.0L four cylinders for 11 vehicles in the Japanese Super Formula Championship.
Outside of Japan, Toyota will be making two official entries to the Nurburgring 24 Hours endurance race for the second year in a row. For 2019, Toyota will bring out a specially modified Lexus LC with a 2UR-GSE engine scheduled to compete in the SP-PRO class. Surprisingly, the Supra will be making its debut there as well and will compete in the SP8T class.

In the World Rally Championship (WRC), Toyota will continue to race the Yaris WRC once again and will be under the leadership of team principal Tommi Makinen. In the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), Toyota will be racing with two new improved TS050 Hybrid models. Driver lineup will be announced at a later date.

In NASCAR, Toyota will continue to compete in the series. For the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series, Toyota will still compete with the Camry. Meanwhile, Toyota will be fielding the Supra in the NASCAR Xfinity Series and the Tundra in the NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series.
Going forward in 2019, Toyota hopes to create better cars through its motorsports activities. At the same time, the automaker aims to improve their standing in motorsports compared to that in the past year.
