Watch: Red Bull stunt pilot just flew a plane through two tunnels
Red Bull sponsored pilot flies a plane through two tunnels, setting a new record

Red Bull is famous for creating some very crazy stunts over the past few years. Some of the craziest they've done include racing a Formula 1 car up a ski slope complete with snow chains, and their zero-gravity tire change. But their stunts aren't just limited to motorsports. The energy drink company also sponsors athletes from other fields, and one of those is Dario Costa.
Costa is a professional race and stunt pilot for Italy, and his latest stunt is something straight out of Grand Theft Auto (GTA). He flew his plane inside two tunnels near Istanbul, Turkey. Yes, we're serious.
What made the stunt more challenging for Costa is that he had to take off from the tunnel itself. From the video, the tunnel appears to be four-lane wide, leaving the plane little room on either side. According to Red Bull, he only had an average of 4.0m between the wingtip and the wall on each side. Aside from being careful about the sides, Costa also had to factor in the altitude he was flying. Fly too low, his plane would hit the road. Fly too high, and he'd hit the ceiling.
The Catalca Tunnels tunnel, where the stunt was performed, wasn't short either. The distance from takeoff to the exit of the second tunnel was 2.26 km, and he had to fly for a total of 43.44 seconds. The plane wasn't a slouch either, averaging 245 km/h in the second tunnel. More importantly, the tunnels aren't exactly straight.

“I’d never flown in a tunnel in my life – nobody had ever done it – so there was a big question mark in my head whether everything would go as we expected. It was a big relief, of course, but big, big happiness was the main emotion. For me, it’s another dream come true,” said Costa.
