Viper will officially return this year to the stage of some of its most impressive past road racing performances – the historic 24 Hours of Le Mans in France.
SRT Motorsports has accepted an invitation from the ACO (Automobile Club de l'Ouest) to field two SRT Viper GTS-Rs in the LM GTE Pro class of the 2013 24 Heures du Mans happening this June 22-23, officially returning the Viper sports car to one of the most prestigious automobile endurance races in the world.
The last time Viper competed at Le Mans was back in 2000 where it took first and second in the very competitive GTS class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, won the GT world title, won the 2000 Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona overall, and went on to win every race in the ALMS championship to take that title in its final racing season in the series.
"Historically the Viper GTS-R has enjoyed great success at Le Mans, so we couldn't be more excited and proud to accept the challenge to return to France and continue composing the next chapter in the history of Viper racing at such an historic venue." said Ralph Gilles , President and CEO – Street and Racing Technology Brand and Motorsports, Chrysler Group LLC.
The core team of drivers from 2012 will return to the SRT Viper GTS-R team, including Jonathan Bomarito, Dominik Farnbacher, Marc Goossens, Tommy Kendall and Kuno Wittmer. A sixth driver will be named in the coming weeks.
