Two-time F1 champ Fernando Alonso wins 2019 Daytona 24

Fernando Alonso is on the hunt to achieve motorsport's highly coveted Triple Crown. So far, he's already won the 24 Hour of Le Mans last year with Toyota, and had two victories at the Monaco Grand Prix during his stint with Formula 1. Now, he's hoping to win the Indianapolis 500 later this year in order to finally complete the trio of requirements, a feat done only by Graham Hill. But before that, the two-time Formula 1 world champion has recently completed another achievement by winning the 2019 Daytona 24 Hours.

Together with his teammates Jordan Taylor, Renger van der Zande and former Sauber F1 driver Kamui Kobayashi, Alonso and his team fought through the heavy rains in their No. 10 Konica-Minolta Cadillac DPi-VR run by Wayne Taylor Racing.

It wasn't an easy win for the team. Before the first red flag, Alonso had to fight his way up from 7th place. In the last few hours of the race, Alonso managed to take the lead from 2018 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Prototype champion Felipe Nasr after he spun out from the wet track. A few minutes later, the race was red flagged for a second time and was no longer restarted, handing victory over to Alonso and his team.

With his win, Alonso becomes the third Formula 1 world champion to ever win at Daytona follwing in the footsteps of 1961 F1 champion, Phil Hill and 1978 F1 champion Mario Andretti. Here's to hoping his 2019 Indy 500 run this May will prove to be as successful as his recent win at Daytona, finally completing the Triple Crown.
