Track-only Mercedes-AMG GT4 unveiled
Mercedes unveils track only AMG GT4 based off the AMG GT R, comes with air conditioning as an option

Mercedes-AMG has continuously been churning out some some race-prepped GT cars as of late. The latest one being in the form of the AMG GT4. Based on the AMG GT R, the GT4 race car made its online debut just days before the upcoming 24 hours of Spa. Mercedes bills it as a production-based concept, and follows the likes of the Mercedes-AMG GT3 and the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3.

As the name implies, the AMG GT4 is strictly a track-only race car built to comply with the international GT4 race series. Prior to its launch, the AMG GT4 went through extreme testing. Mercedes-Benz claims the GT4 to have done over 30,000 kilometers on track to ensure it can conquer the world's best race courses and race series. Mercedes-Benz states that development of the AMG GT4 stemmed from the growing demand of customer driven GT4 cars.
With regards to technical aspects, the AMG GT4 improves upon the base AMG GT R specifically in the aerodynamics department. It is powered by the same 4.0-liter biturbo V8 engine found on the GT R. However though the AMG GT4 only produces 510 PS and over 600 Nm of torque instead of the GT R's output of 585 PS. Despite the 75 PS difference from the GT R, the AMG GT4 easily makes up for it by shedding about 240 kg. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed sequential gearbox identical to that of the Mercedes-AMG GT3.

Thanks to the carbon fiber diet, the new GT4 does 0-100km/h in under four seconds and has a top speed of more than 250 km/h. To give a resemblance of comfort, customers can opt to have an air conditioning system installed on their GT4, but will increase the weight.
Deliveries of the Mercedes-AMG GT4 to customer racing teams begin at the end of the year. With the car having an air conditioning system, it isn't far fetched that someone would drive it on the streets.
