Toyota unveils V8-powered GR Supra Supercar for 2026
V8-powered GR Supra to race in 2026 Repco Supercars Championship

Nope, what you're looking at is not the FT-1 concept from a few years back. This one is actually going racing at the Land Down Under.
Toyota Australia has officially taken the wraps off its first-ever GR Supra Supercar, marking the brand’s entry into the Repco Supercars Championship in 2026.

The reveal comes nearly a year after Toyota announced its plans to join Australia’s premier touring car series. Developed by Toyota Australia’s design division in partnership with Walkinshaw Andretti United (WAU), the new GEN3-spec GR Supra Supercar has now materialized after months of testing and homologation work.

Unlike the road-going coupe, the GR Supra Supercar has been scaled up to fit the larger GEN3 chassis, giving it a more aggressive stance while meeting the category’s strict dimensions. Likewise, the 3.0-liter BMW inline six turbo has been taken out, as under the hood is a naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 engine, which is the same configuration mandated for all GEN3 cars in the Supercars Championship.
A total of six GR Supra Supercars will compete on the 2026 grid. WAU will campaign two cars, to be driven by Chaz Mostert and Ryan Wood, while Brad Jones Racing (BJR) will run four more entries, with its driver line-up to be confirmed.

Toyota confirmed it is committed to at least five years in Supercars, expanding on its existing Toyota Gazoo Racing Australia (TGRA) GR Cup, which has served as a grassroots feeder category with the 86 and GR86 for the past decade.
Following its Sydney reveal, the GR Supra Supercar will make its public debut at Mount Panorama during the Bathurst 1000 this October, where it will be displayed and run demonstration laps. Testing begins shortly after at various Australian racetracks, leading up to the official series debut in February 2026.
