Toyota to decimate all with 680 PS Le Mans Hypercar

Toyota is ready to reveal its Le Mans-inspired hypercar racer next week. After showing the camouflaged road-going version last September 2020, the company will premiere the racing version that will compete at the FIA's new Le Mans Hypercar (LMH) class this year.

But before the new racecar makes its official debut next Friday, the company released some of the hypercar's specs. For starters, Toyota said the Le Mans hypercar produces 680 PS thanks to a hybrid powertrain that sends power to all four wheels. They did not go into specifics, but it is likely derived from the hybrid V6 used in the TS050 Hybrid.

Besides making nearly 700 PS, the Le Mans racer only tips the scales at 1,030 kg. Combined with its hybrid powerplant and Toyota's new racing hypercar is poised to be one quick and agile machine. Other details regarding the car itself, however, remain a mystery.

As far as its exterior is concerned, we won't be surprised if the all-new race car will heavily resemble the GR Super Sport set to hit the roads soon. But unlike the production version that comes with a removable top, the racing version will most likely have a fixed roof for added rigidity and stability. The racer might also get a different aero kit for it to have better aerodynamics.

With Toyota only revealing a few of the key specs of the upcoming racecar, all we can, for now, is wait until January 15 when they take the covers off. As for the road car, we might have to wait a little longer for it.
