Toyota Motorsport GmbH is now Toyota Gazoo Racing Europe
Toyota Motorsport GmbH (TMG) now called Toyota Gazoo Racing Europe (TGR-E) to reflect involvement with road-going GR models

Die-hard Toyota fans around the world, especially those in Europe, will have heard about Toyota Motorsport GmbH (TMG) or Toyota Team Europe (TTE).
The European-based racing arm of Toyota is known for the automaker’s FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) program. There were even involved with the brand’s previous campaign into Formula 1.
Today the TMG name is no more. Instead, the Japanese automaker has renamed its European research and development base as Toyota Gazoo Racing Europe GmbH (TGR-E).
The rebranding comes as the European-based company is now involved with developing road vehicles for the Gazoo Racing or GR sub-brand. In particular, the TGR-E will be applying its expertise and experience in motorsports into the development of upcoming GR production vehicles. It wasn’t mentioned which models TGR-E will be working on, but it is very likely that the road-going version of Toyota’s LM Hypercar WEC racer for 2021 is one of them.
“The absolute mission of participating in motorsports, which is a battle of works produced by manufacturers, is winning. That is why TGR Europe must be a team of professionals that produces winning works. To continue winning, we have to do kaizen (continuous improvement) and making things better and better and better, no matter what the circumstances. Our team will continue to make ever-better cars here in Köln, Germany, to win,” said Akio Toyoda, president of Toyota Motor Corporation.
Despite working on road-going production cars for GR, TGR-E will continue to serve as the automaker’s hub for motorsport activities in Europe. As such, the company will continue to supply engines for cars competing in the FIA WEC and the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC). They will also be further developing the GR Supra GT4 together with upcoming racecars.
TMG was first established as Andersson Motorsport GmbH in 1979 and later rebranded to Toyota Team Europe. In 1993, the company changed its name to TMG when it became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Toyota.
