When it comes to the aftermarket scene, Thailand is most popularly known for their crazy pickup trucks. From manufacturer-built race trucks to 10-second drag diesel pickups, the Land of Smiles has it all. Just browse through social media and you can easily see how big the scene is. However, out of all the pickup trucks we’ve seen, this classic Mitsubishi L200 definitely has to be one of the wildest ones so far.
On the outside, it looks just like a regular second-generation L200 finished with a fresh coat of red paint and sitting on a set of aftermarket wheels. But take a closer look, and you’ll see that its anything but regular.
Under the hood (or lack thereof), sits the popular 2.5-liter 4D56 diesel engine. If the engine code sounds familiar, that’s because it was used it a number of Mitsubishi models, including the previous-generation Montero Sport. Unlike the 4D56 that sits in your family’s Montero Sport or Strada, this engine has been fitted with four turbochargers.
Yes, your eyes are not deceiving you. Someone in Thailand just built a quad-turbo 4D56 L200. Based on the piping, this appears to be a functional setup as well. Going into the details of the build, it appears to be a compound turbo setup. For reference, a compound turbo setup works by using a set of smaller turbos to help spool up the much larger turbo. The result is more power but without that much lag. Those fascinated by good welding will also be impressed by the work done on the titanium piping.
Other details we noticed include a plethora of digital gauges inside the cabin to monitor engine parameters. Considering how complex the quad-turbo setup is, the owner will definitely need it. It also comes with lightweight racing seats and racing harnesses
