This is what the Formula 1 cars of 2021 will look like
Formula 1 execs redesign the car for 2021 season, improving aerodynamics and styling

In the coming years, expect major changes to happen in Formula 1. More tracks are to be added on the calendar, engine regulations will change with the possiblity of new engine manufacturers joining, and now the F1 cars themselves are expected to undergo a massive redesign. Formula 1 boss Ross Brawn revealed at the recently concluded Singapore Grand Prix a trio of concept drawings of how they depict F1 cars of 2021 to look like.

According to Formula 1, the new design is expected to make the cars look better as well as improve the vehicle's performance aerodynamically. That said, the redesign will make races more lively as cars from all over the grid will have more opportunities to overtake. If you've been following the past few seasons of Formula 1, you would have noticed that cars have a tough time overtaking each other unless there is a big performance difference. The 2021 concept cars will change that.

Based on their research, the reason why cars have a tough time overtaking is because of downforce...or lack there of. Brawn says that once a car gets within a few car lenghts of another, it loses around 50-percent of its downforce. With the new design, it is set to retain about 80-percent of the downforce.

While improving aero is a factor, Brawn says that another primary objective was to make great looking cars. “We want cars that look better than what you see in a video game, cars that kids want to have up on their walls. At each stage, as we have been evolving the car, we’ve had someone we are working with create a graphic representation artist to give us a feel of what the car could look like,” said Brawn.
Formula 1 management hopes to have the framework by the end of 2019, allowing enough time for refinement on the final design. This will also give teams the chance to adapt to time to design their cars in line with the new regulations.
