The 2015 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) recently witnessed the debut of the 2016 Chevrolet COPO Camaro. Based off the sixth-generation Camaro, the new drag car features a lightweight rigid body race-prepped exterior/interior equipment and a choice of three engines.
Limited to only 69 units, the 2016 COPO Camaro features a light yet strong body frame which delivers better aerodynamics. It has a carbon fiber hood, bespoke Red Hot exterior finish, red-accented grill trim and Courtney Force signature graphics.
It also has wheelie bars, parachute and Weld lightweight racing wheels wrapped in Goodyear racing tires.
Aboard the COPO Camaro, it has a National Hot Rod Association (NHRA)-certified chrome-moly roll cage, lightweight racing bucket seats with COPO logos, five-point safety harnesses and a floor-mounted shifter. It also has racing gauges and a competition switch panel.
As previously mentioned, the new COPO drag car will be available with three engines. There is the 5.7-liter supercharged V8, naturally-aspirated 7.0-liter V8 and the all-new LT-based 6.2-liter supercharged V8. All engines will be mated to a race-prepped Turbo 400 3-speed automatic.
Chassis-wise, it will have racing suspension components along with a unique rear solid axle system which replaces the independent suspension system. Other chassis components include: lightweight adjustable front struts, four-link rear suspension with adjustable coil overs, un-assisted rack & pinion steering system, fuel cell with built-in high pressure pump and a unique wire racing harness.
The COPO Camaro featured during the 2015 SEMA Show will be auctioned off by Barrett-Jackson in 2016, with the proceeds going to United Way Foundation.
