Scuderia Toro Rosso confirms Carlos Sainz Jr. for 2015
Sainz Jr. replaces Jean-Eric Vergne which was the team's driver for the past three F1 seasons
The Scuderia Toro Rosso has confirmed that Carlos Sainz Jr. will complete the driver lineup of the Red Bull-owned junior F1 team. The 20 year old Spaniard and new Formula Renault 3.5 champion replaces Jean-Eric Vergne which was the team's driver for the past three F1 seasons.
Before joining the Scuderia Toro Rosso F1 team, Sainz Jr. won the Asia-Pacific KF3 karting title in 2008 and two years later he made his single-seater debut in Formula BMW. In 2013, Sainz Jr. joined the Formula Renault 2.0, the British Formula 3 and the GP3 series.
Sainz Jr. said that he's happy that the Scuderia Toro Rosso F1 team chose him to be one of their drivers.
"I am really happy to have landed the drive with Scuderia Toro Rosso. I want to thank Red Bull for putting their faith in me,” Sainz Jr. said.
The Spanish driver also said that driving for Toro Rosso was his main objective when he became part of Red Bull's Young Driver Program.
“Ever since I have been part of Red Bull's Young Driver Program, this has been my aim. I have had a very successful season in World Series by Renault this year and now I am looking forward to taking the step up to Formula 1,” Sains Jr. added.
Sainz Jr. teammate would be 17 year old Dutchman, Max Verstappen, who is also an F1 rookie.
