Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus sets new Nurburgring lap record
The 1,350 kg race car from Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus sets a new lap record for race-spec vehicles
US specialty brand Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus recently announced that their race-spec SCG003 has set a new lap record around the Nurburgring Nordschleife.
Called the SCG003C (Competizione), the race car was able to lap around the dreaded 'Green Hell' in 6:42 with ballast and a restricted engine output according to their Instagram post.
The time set by the SCG003C means that they have beaten the 6:47.5 lap record set by a Pagani Zonda R in 2010 for race-spec cars.
The time set by the SCG003C, however, is still a long way off of the ultimate Nurburgring Nordschleife (12.94 mile / 20.82 km) lap record at 6:11.13 that has stood for nearly 32 years. That time was set by the late Stefan Bellof during qualifiying for the 1983 1000km of Nurburgring aboard a Group C Porsche 956 prototype.
The race car itself utilizes a carbon fiber chassis, double wishbone suspension all around and a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 from Honda that produces 530 PS at 6,800 rpm and 700 Nm of torque at 4,500 rpm.
It only weighs 1,350 kg and has a 49:51 weight distribution between the front and rear. Also enabling the car to handle better around tight bends is a set of adjustable dampers from KW and pushrod-operated front and rear anti-roll bars.
There is also a road-going version of the aforementioned race car called the SCG003S (Stradale) that is fitted with V12 engine though the brand has not yet stated its exact power output.
