The Sauber F1 team has launched its new Sauber C32-Ferrari F1 car at its headquarters in Hinwil, Switzerland for this year's F1 season. Although the F1 technical regulations have barely changed the new C32 is visually different from its predecessor due to the slightly downward-sloping nose section and slimmer sidepods.
“Over the course of last season we invested a lot of time and energy in developing a better understanding of our car. To this end, we focused primarily on the aerodynamic effects around the rear of the car. Our aero experts have done some great work in this respect, the basis of which has been used to develop the C32.” explained Matt Morris, the Sauber F1 Team’s Chief Designer.
The Sauber F1 team also revealed their team drivers Nico Hulkenberg and Esteban Gutierrez and also stated that the team will start their winter testing on February 5 in Jerez dela Frontera.
"We have a very successful 2012 behind us, where we have not only improved from seventh in the constructors' championship in sixth place, but our points haul of 44 meters 2011 have increased to 126 in the last season. We have a strong base on which to build and we want to improve further. " says team boss Monisha Kaltenborn
As usual, the C32's engine, gearbox, and KERS came from Ferrari, the KERS which is based from last year has been optimized in terms of volume and weight. The rear axle is completely new and the layout was changed to maximize air flow in the rear area.
Like last year, the Sauber F1 Team will compete with a basic version of the roll-out, and then bring before the first race, a number of updates.
"We have set ourselves with the Sauber C32-Ferrari high goals, and I am confident that we can achieve them. With the C31, we owned a very good base, which we have now improved. We want 2013 to bring the vehicle to the starting line, which is from the first race competitive, but the same has "a lot of potential for further development, summarizes Matt Morris.
