Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion to push through in August
Organizers of Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion announces that the event will push through on August 13-16

The 2020 Pebble Beach Concours’d Elegance this coming August, along with other similar events of Monterey Car Week such as The Quail have already been canceled by organizers due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Despite those events being canceled, it seems that the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion will continue to push through on August 13-16.
Organizers of the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion said that they have consulted with County of Monterey health officials and leadership and will continue to proceed as scheduled at the moment. However, a final decision on whether the event will push through in August will be announced sometime late May or June. Officials say it will all depend on the health situation in the coming months.
Should the event push through, it won’t be the same Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion visitors have experienced in the past. According to organizers, a “scaled-back version” of the event will be held on August 13-16. No specific details were mentioned in the announcement. But, they did say that “plans for spatial distancing, a new concierge program to welcome guests and other safety protocols will be implemented for when the facility reopens”.
Aside from applying new safety protocols, the race track, WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, explained that the size of the facility is another factor that will help ensure a safe race.
“The Laguna Seca Recreation Area is a 542-acre open space environment that encompasses the iconic race track, 300-plus campgrounds, miles of hiking trails, and vast hillsides for viewing. Its wide-open space allows for social distancing, while restrictions may be in place for more limited access to the paddock depending on the numbers.”
While August is still three months away, it is uncertain when the pandemic will blow over. As such, the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion could still be canceled, just like other events of Monterey Car Week. At the same time, the situation could have already improved by then; just take a look at Formula 1. The organizers plan to start the 2020 F1 season calendar this July.
