Report: Rosberg may use new engine for Singapore Grand Prix
Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 team to find out if Rosberg needs to use a new engine for the Singapore Grand Prix
After the bittersweet victory during the 2015 Italian Grand Prix, Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One (F1) team is investigating as to what caused Nico Rosberg's Monza power unit to fail.
As a review, Rosberg had to retire with just three laps to go during the Italian Grand Prix due to an engine failure. In this regard, Motorsport.com reports that Rosberg's engine would be investigated at the team's Brixworth headquarters to find out if it can be used again. If not, Rosberg will have to switch to his fourth power unit for the Singapore Grand Prix.
According to previous report released by the team, Rosberg's power unit had a leak in the cooling system which led the engine to fail. However, Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 team boss Toto Wolff opted to conduct further investigation in order to know whether the engine is terminally damaged.
“We don't know yet whether it is terminally damaged. And to make the point – it wasn't an engine specific failure we had. It was a leak in the cooling system which led to the engine to fail," said Wolff.
In addition, Wolff said that Rosberg's power unit was on its sixth race and they didn't get any early warning prior to the engine failure.
