Report: BMW, Nissan in talks for Formula E
BMW and Nissan may join forces to enter Formula E

In Formula E, manufacturer presence is provided by Renault, Citroën, Mahindra, and McLaren. Late last year, Jaguar has announced their plans to enter Formula E as well. Two new manufacturers may also enter the series soon, namely Nissan and BMW.
According to Autosport, “multiple sources” say that the two manufacturers are in talks to enter the all-electric open wheel racing series. Nissan and BMW plan to join the series by the start of the third season which starts September 2016 in Montreal.
Both manufacturers have been involved in the sport in one way or another. The Renault-Nissan Alliance made way for electric powertrains for the two automakers with Renault being powertrain supplier for the series. BMW on the other hand has been pushing its plug-in hybrid technologies in their production cars and have been providing safety and medical cars for the series from the beginning. According to insiders BMW declined to join the series because the series requires drivers to swap cars mid-race. If the deal pushes through, BMW may reconsider their position. In addition, Formula E has recently announced their commitment to go for a single car format by the fifth season which may have sparked interest for BMW.
