Redesigned Roborace Car gets new aero package
Roborace Car gets aerodynamic tweaks before competition debut

Last April, a new category was introduced in open wheel racing. Called Roborace, it is the first racing league to compete with autonomous cars with its debut set during the 2016-2017 Formula E season.
The Roborace Car is an automated vehicle with well-integrated cameras in the nose, featuring radars in the rear, and Light Detection Ranging (LIDAR) in both rear and side. Designer Daniel Simon decided to update the look of the Roborace car to improve aerodynamics. Its fenders arch upward from the low-slung central fuselage becoming better incorporated with the cooling ducts for electronics and battery. During its first preview, the original shape of the Roborace car featured flatter, more angular lines.
“The Roborace is as much about competition as it is entertainment. Therefore - and quite unusual in today’s racing world - beauty was very high on our agenda and we work hard to merge the best performance with stunning styling,” said Simon.
Roborace will be a support series for Formula E for the 2016/2017 season. Ten teams will compete and each team will have two mechanically identical electric vehicles. To win this season, their goal is to create a better version of artificial intelligence algorithms than their opponents. each car will be able to communicate with one another to avoid collisions and will come up with its own strategy in gaining the lead. At the moment, only renderings of racers exist.
