Racing legend Sir Jack Brabham passes away at 88
Sir Jack Brabham was a 3-time World Champion, was knighted in 1978 and proclaimed a National Treasure in 2012.

The three-time Formula 1 world champion Sir Jack Brabham, who still holds the distinction of being the only one to win a Driver’s Championship in a car he built himself, has died at the age of 88.
Born in Sydney, Australia, he started out as a mechanic for the Royal Australian Air Force before striking it out on his own by starting up an engineering company.
He moved back to the UK in the mid-50s and started manufacturing his own car and in the process revolutionizing racing by being the first to move the engine in F1 cars from the front to the rear.

His first championship came in 1959 and in ’66 he won it in the BT19 – the car he built himself – along with the Constructor’s Championship and then again in 1967.
“It’s a very sad day for all of us,” My father passed away peacefully at home at the age of 88 this morning. He lived an incredible life, achieving more than anyone would ever dream of and he will continue to live on through the astounding legacy he leaves behind,” said his youngest son David on the family’s website.
