Porsche reveals their next-generation 911 GT3 R race car

Porsche has just unveiled the 911 GT3 R, a race-spec version of the 911 GT3 RS that first debuted at this year's Geneva Motor Show. Featuring a more rigid and lightweight construction along with FIA GT3 racing equipment, Porsche claims that the next-generation 911 GT3 R has better aerodynamics, reduced fuel consumption and improved handling.

Much like the road-going version, its body is comprised of aluminum mixed with a magnesium roof and carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) hood and engine cover. As it is now 83mm longer, the added length according to the automaker optimized the car's center of gravity while the wider fenders and big rear wing improved aerodynamics.

In further improving the car's center of gravity, Porsche omitted the side radiators and opted for a centrally-mounted radiator. This not only reduced weight but also protected the radiator from collision damage.

Powering the GT3 race car is a 4.0-liter flat-six engine that benefits from direct injection and dry sump lubrication. It is still rated to produce 500 PS like its road-going counterpart but is instead fitted with a 6-speed sequential gearbox with paddle shifters and a limited slip differential.

Other standard racing features present on the 911 GT3 R include: removable polycarbonate door windows, 120-liter FT3 fuel cell, 18-inch BBS alloys with center-locking nuts, six-piston aluminum racing brake calipers, racing ABS and a Cosworth IPS32 power module.
