The Novice Drift Series (NDS) will hold its first event at Megatent Libis on March 9. Drifting is the fastest growing motorsport globally due to its level of excitement for competitors and high entertainment value for spectators. The local drift community has seen a significant growth in the last five years with more enthusiasts and novice drivers who want to show their skills and highly tuned cars.
Newer drivers however, aren't given any opportunity to shine in professional drift competitions as these are dominated by more experienced drivers. Thus giving birth to the Novice Drift Series, which is a collaborative project of professional drivers and race organizers to give novice drifters the opportunity to step into the spotlight and compete with drivers of similar skills in a safe and professional environment. NDS aims to be the stepping stone for drivers to professional competitions.
NDS is headed by International drift driver David M. Feliciano of DMF Drift, the pioneer of drifting in the Philippines, who organized 'Countersteer', the first-ever drift event in 2006. David Feliciano, as a Formula Drift Asia licensed competitor will be the Race Director as well as the Race Course Designer for NDS; husband-and-wife tandem Chepe and Miles Feliciano of RedShoeTouge Media Produce; and Joel Dagdag, the core of '1320 Shoot-Out', an invitational drag racing event.
NDS aims to bring grassroots drifting to a more progressive level that is professionally organized, making it comparable to its Asian counterparts. To achieve this, a proper set of rules used International competitions will be used, and competitors will be judged by professional drift drivers composed of champions and event winners. This is will prepare the new drivers not just for local events, but International events as well to further uplift the standards of drifting in the Philippines.
"Our goal is not only to promote the sport, but also to find new players and forge partnerships in this growing drifting community here in the country. Drifting is a truly enjoyable, family-oriented, and exciting game for all," says Miles Feliciano, Event Producer.
Judges selected for the inaugural NDS event are: Six-time drift champion Alex Perez, 2011 drift-champion Audel Sison, and multiple event winner Boodie Dabasol. Top competitor John Boban has been tasked as Chief Scrutineer.
The Novice Drift Series is supported by DMF Drift, Motul, Rota Wheels, Racks, Wheel Art, Red Shoe Togue Media Produce, AutoIndustriya.com, Xtreme Auto Center, Alexei's, Custompinoyrides, Lgtmla, Inside Motoring on DZRJ, Pinoy Xtreme, and Stoplight TV.
