Nissan and Mercedes-Benz both came into Formula E with a lot of promise, further boosting the reputation of the all-electric open-wheel racing series as the new draw for major car manufacturers worldwide.

With 6 consecutive rounds held at the Berlin Tempelhof Airport without spectators present, Formula E finished off their abbreviated season; one that has been impacted significantly by COVID-19.

On the penultimate race, Nissan's Oliver Rowland converted his pole position into a commanding race win, leading all the way. This is the second win of the Nissan e.dams team in Formula E; the first one was in the previous season in New York.

“An incredible race for the team today and an impressive victory for Oli,” said Tommaso Volpe, Nissan global motorsports director. “We had great pace in qualifying and the race, without sacrificing energy efficiency, which is the perfect scenario in Formula E. The team is fired up for the final race tomorrow and will race hard to secure P2 in the team championship.”

Robin Frijns of Envision Virgin Racing took second place, while Rene Rast of Audi Sport ABT rounded out the podium in third. Rast replaced Daniel Abt after the latter was caught cheating in a virtual race during the lockdown.

For the next round, it was Mercedes-Benz EQ that took the win with former McLaren Formula 1 driver Stoffel Vandoorne taking the top spot. But it wasn't just a win for Mercedes-Benz; as is the case (normally) in Formula 1, the team also took a 1-2 with younger Mercedes driver Nyck de Vries in second place.

“What an incredible race! I’m ecstatic at having just taken my maiden win in Formula E. Sébastien (Buemi) was always close, but we had him under control. To finish our first season with a one-two win is simply fantastic, and we couldn't have asked for more,” said Stoffel Vandoorne of the Mercedes-Benz EQ Formula E Team.

The win was the first for Mercedes-Benz in Formula E. Rounding out the top 3 spots was Nissan's Sebastian Buemi.

The final two rounds of the 2019-2020 Formula E season had no impact on the champions, as Antonio Felix Da Costa of DS Techeetah already clinched the championship prior to Rowland's win. DS Techeetah also wrapped up the team championship in the same race; it was their second.
