Nissan GT-R LM Nismo withdrawn from 2015 FIA WEC
Nissan will undergo intensive test program before re-joining the FIA World Endurance Championship
Nissan has announced that they will withdraw the GT-R LM Nismo from the 2015 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC).
According to the company's official statement, the GT-R LM Nismo will undergo test program in order to address the vehicle's technical issue which hampered the Nissan team during the Le Mans 24 Hours race last June.
As a review, the energy recovery system (ERS) of the three Nissan GT-R LM Nismo cars were deactivated due to technical problems. This meant that Nissan had to run at the Le Mans 24 Hours on engine power alone. The vehicle's 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 gasoline engine could not keep up with the pace and could not regain the GT-R LM Nismo's performance.
Nismo president Shoichi Miyatani said that they are committed to overcome this challenge and to prepare a better GT-R LM Nismo.
“We know people will be disappointed, but be assured that nobody is more disappointed than us. That is why we have chosen to continue our test program and prepare the GT-R LM NISMO for the strong competition we face in the World Endurance Championship. We are committed to overcoming this challenge,” said Miyatani.
