Nico Hulkenberg to drive for Force India F1 team until 2017

The German racing driver will stay with Sahara Force India for the next 2 years after the racing team announced that they have extended Nico Hulkenberg's contract until the end of the 2017 Formula 1 season.

“I’m very pleased to finalize and announce my plans for the future. I know this team inside out and I feel at home here so it made perfect sense to make a long-term commitment. The progress the team has shown over the last two years has really impressed me and gives me confidence for the future,” said Hulkenberg.

The 28 year-old racing driver also added that the team is comprised of people who are hungry for success and wants to improve every year. Hulkenberg also stated that he wants to continue growing with Force India as they move up the grid.

Team Principal and Managing Director of Sahara Force India Dr. Vijay Mallya said that it is no secret that he himself is a fan of Hulkenberg and it is great news that the German racing driver has confirmed to stay with the team until 2017.

“He has spent almost four years with us already and in that time we’ve seen him develop into one of the best racing drivers in the world. Nico has the speed, the technical knowledge and the maturity to help us achieve some great results in the years ahead. We will do everything we can to continue delivering a car to match his talent,” added Mallya.

Aside from being the teammate of fellow Force India driver Sergio Perez, Hulkenberg also recently made a name for himself in this year's 24 Hours of Le Mans with Porsche. The winning team composed of Earl Bamber, Nick Tandy and Hulkenberg himself who all drove the 919 Hybrid LMP1.

Hulkenberg's victory in the prestigious endurance race marks the first time in over 20 years that an active Formula 1 driver won in Le Mans since Johnny Herbert's win in 1991.
