Monaco F1 Grand Prix canceled for the first time in over 60 years
More cancellations and postponements announced for 2020 Formula 1 season calendar

Following the cancelation of the first few races, there have been additional disruptions to the 2020 Formula 1 season calendar due to the continuing spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Today, Formula 1 has announced that the upcoming Dutch and Spanish Grand Prix scheduled for May 1-3 and May 8-10, respectively, have been postponed. More importantly, however, the organizers also announced that the Monaco Grand Prix, initially set for May 21-24, 2020, has been officially canceled.
Yes, you read that right. Unlike the Dutch and Spanish Grand Prix (and other races in the season calendar) which have only been postponed, the Monaco Grand Prix will not take place in the 2020 season. Since 1954, the Monaco Grand Prix has always been a staple in the Formula 1 calendar, and it has always been a fan favorite. It’s also undoubtedly the most iconic track on the calendar due to its rich history. As such, this marks the first time in 66 years that the race will not be taking place.
“As a result, and after careful consideration as to the gravity of this crisis worldwide, it is with great sadness that the Automobile Club De Monaco Board of Directors has taken the decision to cancel the 12th Grand Prix De Monaco Historique (8-10 May 2020) and the 78th Grand Prix De Monaco Formula 1, FIA World Championship (21-24 May 2020). To all the fans, spectators, partners, and our members, the Board of Directors wishes to express its sincere regrets that these two events cannot be postponed and under no circumstances, will it be possible to organize these events later this year,” said the organizers in a statement.
At the moment, the first 2020 Formula 1 race scheduled is the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku on Jun 5-7, 2020. However, that could still change as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to affect people globally. In fact, the 24 Hours of Le Mans scheduled for June has already been moved to September.
There have been no new dates posted for the postponed Dutch and Spanish Grand Prix just yet.
