The Mitsubhi Outlander PHEV will join the T1.3 4x4 Electric class at the 2014 FIA Asia Cross Country Rally (AXCR) for the second straight year.
The 2,200 km 2014 FIA AXCR will be from August 9 to 15, to be run from Thailand to Cambodia.
With this, Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) announced that they will send a team of technical support engineers for the Two & Four Motor Sports rally team, headed by Kenji Ishida, who will run a Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV at the 2014 FIA AXCR.
MMC engineers will provide the Two & Four rally team with technical support for the plug-in hybrid four-wheel drive SUV. The automaker says that they will also utilize valuable data gathered by the technical support team for future vehicle development.
The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV rally car is equipped with competition suspension and reinforced mountings to have higher ground clearance and improve the vehicle’s all-terrain performance. Mitsubishi says the vehicle’s S-AWC integrated vehicle dynamics control system will be tuned for competition use to deliver better traction.
It will also be fitted with a roll cage and underbody skid plate. Other modifications include the use of lighter engine hood, rear gate and interior parts, additional sealing and a snorkel for water crossings.
