Filipino-American racer Michele Bumgarner gets support from Mazda Philippines. The Memorandum of Understanding between the involved parties was announced on July 15, 2013 in Makati City.
Bumgarner is a 2008 Star Mazda Championship series veteran, Philippine Motorsports Driver of the Year awardee, and international carting champion. The said support will help her compete in the 2014 Pro Mazda Championship as part of Mazda’s Road to Indy development program. It will be a major stepping-stone in Michele’s ultimate goal of being able to race in the global motorsports arena in the North American INDYCAR Championships. Bumgarner believes the move with Mazda is crucial to the success of both parties.
The nine-leg 2013 Pro Mazda Championship is the second official step on the Mazda Road to Indy ladder system. The series champion of this event will be given a sponsorship package by Mazda for the Firestone Indy Lights series the following year.
Bumgarner aims to compete in the last three race weekends of the 2013 Pro Mazda series in August and October. She is also lining up for test schedules with a Pro Mazda Formula car in the succeeding weeks with the possibility of being able to compete in the top class of the Formula Car Challenge.
