Mercedes-AMG Petronas secures 2015 Formula One Constructors' Title
Kimi Raikkonen's 30-second penalty post race lands Mercedes their second consecutive Constructors' title

After being victorious at the 2015 Russian Grand Prix, the Brackley-based racing team has just won the 2015 Formula One Constructors' title. This comes after the Federation Internationale de L'Automobile (FIA) gave Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen a post-race penalty for causing a collision in the race with Williams' Valterri Bottas.
Originally, the 'Iceman' finished in fifth place but was given a 30-second time penalty by the FIA. When it was added to his race time, Raikkonen dropped to eighth place, reducing his winning points from 10 to 4.
This ultimately sealed Mercedes-AMG Petronas' procurement of the 2015 Constructors' title as the team already secured 531 points after the Russian Grand Prix. Ferrari on the other hand had 365 points but was cut down to 359 due to Raikkonen's eighth place finish post-race.
With a 172 point advantage before the final four rounds along with more wins than the Italian racing team, FIA deemed that Mercedes-AMG Petronas wins this year's Constructors' title.
“After winning in 2014, we raised the bar again to secure this year's title, and we needed to because our rivals gave us plenty of headaches as they stepped up their performance. The work by our team is the perfect example of what drives Mercedes-Benz forward: the best technology. The most efficient hybrid petrol engine that our company has ever made, world-beating aerodynamics and intelligent design in every part of the W06 Hybrid racing car,” said Dr. Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars.
