McLaren will return to Le Mans in 2024

Next year, one of the biggest names in endurance racing is making its return to the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

McLaren will be back at the Circuit de la Sarthe in 2024 with the 720S GT3 EVO race car. This marks the first time McLaren will enter the French classic, 29 years since the F1 GTR scored an upset victory on its debut over more powerful prototype machinery.

The two factory 720S GT3 EVO race cars will be run by United Autosports – the race team that McLaren Formula 1 CEO Zak Brown co-founded and co-owned. Their participation in Le Mans is part of their entry to the new LMGT3 class of the World Endurance Championship, where they will be competing against the likes of Aston Martin, BMW, Ferrari, Ford, GM, Lexus, and Porsche.

McLaren will have race numbers 59 and 95 for the factory United Autosport entry. 59 was the race number of the race-winning Ueno Clinic McLaren F1 GTR, while 95 marks the year where McLaren scored its debut win at Le Mans. Customer team Inception Racing is also expected to race in the WEC season in a third 720S GT3 EVO.

For now, McLaren has not confirmed their driver lineup for their return to WEC. The first round of the season will be at Qatar's Losail circuit on March 2, and the 8-round series will wrap up in Bahrain by November. The most-awaited race at Le Mans will take place on June 15 to 16.
