Mazda marks a new milestone as the Mazda6 SKYACTIV-D Clean Diesel racecar grabbed the GX class win in the Grand-Am Brickyard Grand Prix. This is the first ever win by Mazda at the famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway. This is also the first appearance of a diesel racecar in the track after 60 years.

The team moves ahead of Porsche after eight of 12 races in the GX class championship. The #70 SpeedSource Castrol Edge Mazda6, which was driven by Sylvain Tremblay, took the lead with 47 laps remaining in the 3-hour race, and was never headed. Prior to that lead, it was a three-car battle between Mazda and Porsche alternating for the lead. This was a fifth-in-a-row win for the car.

This was the second year that sports car have been in a featured race at the Indy. The race was the third and final round of the Grand-Am North America Endurance Championship. The Rolex 24 at Daytona and the Sahlen’s Six Hour at Watkins Glen preceded it.
