Mazda PH kicks off MX-5 Miata one-make race
All four rounds to be held at Clark International Speedway
The current-generation MX5 has been around for a good seven years. And since then, there have been rumors about Mazda hosting a local championship similar to the Spec Miata cup in the US. After a long wait, we're glad to say it's finally happening.
Mazda Philippines, together with Manila Sports Car Club (MSCC) and Clark International Speedway, has given the green light on the 2022 MSCC Miata Spec Series. The first round of the championship kicks off on June 11 and it will cover a total of four rounds held at Clark International Speedway.
The series will feature a 20-car grid consisting of brand new, soft top Mazda MX-5s with stock 2.0-liter Skyactiv-G engines and six-speed transmissions. The racecars have been fitted with modifications such as 24-way adjustable coilovers, aftermarket sway bars, steel braided brake lines, and a custom exhaust system.
For safety purposes, the MX5s have a 6-point chromoly rollcage, bucket seats, four-point harness, window safety net, fire extinguisher, and an engine kill switch installed.
In addition, the racecars will run on a set of tires and wheels courtesy of GT Radial and Rota. Together with Pilipinas Shell, the two companies serve as the series' sponsors.

Mazda’s motorsports DNA and its participation in grassroots racing events around the world has made it simpler for us to institute this partnership with the MSCC and the series’ new sponsors,” said Steven Tan, President and CEO of Mazda Philippines.
Together with the one-make race, Miata Club Philippines is also bringing back the Miata Cup race that features other generations of the MX-5 roadster and will run on the same race weekend of the MSCC Miata Spec Series.
