Mazda motorsport heritage celebrated with 2015 Goodwood sculpture
40-meter high 2015 Goodwood Festival of Speed central sculpture highlights Mazda's motorsport heritage
A 40-meter high sculpture highlighted the celebration of Mazda's motorsport heritage at this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed.
British artist Gerry Judah was the man behind Mazda's towering sculpture. According to Judah, his inspiration was driven by Mazda's Kodo design philosophy which emphasizes strength, beauty and tension found in the movement of living things. Judah adds that the sculpture reflects the simplicity of Japanese aesthetics.
The 40-meter high sculpture features two Mazda racecars bursting into the sky on a twisting track of steel beams.
The two cars on top are the Le Mans winning Mazda 787B which took overall victory in the 24 hour race in 1991. It was driven by British driver Johnny Herbert along with Volker Weidler and Bertrand Gachot. The other car is the Mazda LM55 Vision Gran Turismo created for Playstation’s Gran Turismo 6.
