Denso-Hanjin-JF3 Racing's Richard Joson makes a remarkable performance at the Golden Port Formula 3 Circuit in Beijing, China for the 9th and 10th rounds of the Asian Formula 3 Series despite gearbox problems. Joson is now second in the Driver's Championship standings, while the team is also second in the Team standings.
Despite a good start in the 9th round from the 2nd grid spot, a slight gear change problem slowed down Joson sliding him down a position. After a few laps of catching up, he finally managed to move back up to finish in 2nd behind race leader Pepon Marave until the checkered flag.
Success amidst disaster in Round 10 when car problems started to get worse when gearbox problems became worse and having to start at the back of the grid. "I just drove like a madman when I realized that was my only option when I lost first gear at the start and lost fifth with 8 laps to go. It was the longest 20 laps of my life and it was all worth it when I crossed the line taking the checkered flag," said Joson.
"I would like to thank the JF3 and Tom's crew for their hard work and my sponsors for all their support," he added.
Erstwhile, Japanese driver Hideaki Machida takes 2nd in Round 9 for Team Denso-Hanjin-JF3. In his first outing in the Asian Formula 3 Promotional class.
