John O'Hara has been invited to test with A1 Team Ireland at Snetterton, Norfolk next Tuesday, 8th August.
The multi-race winning Asian Formula 3 driver from Kildare will take the wheel of the A1 Team Ireland grand prix car as the national squad continues its pre-season preparations for the second season of the A1 GP World Cup of Motorsport.
Former Irish International Driver of the Year O'Hara is set for a full day's running at Snetterton during which he will conduct set up and preparation work on the A1 Team Ireland machine while familiarising himself with the power and handling characteristics of the 550bhp A1GP car.
"It's a tremendous honour to be asked to assist the Irish team and naturally I didn't waste too much time accepting," said O'Hara. "It's just the opportunity I've been waiting for and, while it's a significant step up in power from a Formula 3 car, I believe that I'm more than ready.
"No one could possibly be more proud than myself to assist the national team and I hope that this is just the first of many opportunities to drive for Ireland."
The Rathcoffey star caught the eye of A1 Team Ireland owner Mark Kershaw by winning more races than any other driver in the past two seasons of Asian F3.
"We've been following John's progress for some time," says Kershaw. "He came with us to the Indonesian round of last season's championship and got on well with the team then.
"We're delighted that this is happening now as John is clearly a very capable driver and has really got the bit between his teeth in recent seasons.
"We've always intended that A1 Team Ireland would be the ideal vehicle to get Irish drivers up to a top level of motorsport. John's objective will be to learn how to drive the car and work with the team for the first time.
"We hope that this will be the beginning of an extended relationship between John and the team."
Official A1GP testing starts on August 30th and the first race of the new season is the A1GP of Netherlands in Zandvoort on Oct 1st.
