Jenson Button to make Super GT debut at Suzuka
Following his one-time return to F1 in Monaco, Jenson Button will be making his Super GT debut at Suzuka

After a one-off race for McLaren at the Monaco Grand Prix, Jenson Button has confirmed that he will be participating in Super GT. The 2009 Formula 1 World Champion will be racing a Team Mugen NSX-GT with his debut being at the 46th and final Suzuka 1000km event, which will take place on August 27.
“After driving an NSX Concept-GT at the Honda Racing Thanks Day last December, I became interested in racing in Super GT. I spoke with Honda and they have given me the chance to race at the Suzuka 1000km. As an F1 driver and a member of Team Mugen, I will push to win. I am very much looking forward to racing in front of my Japanese fans again,” said Button.
Button will have his first outing with the NSX-GT at Suzuka during a tire test on June 6 and 7. Button will be joined by teammates Hideki Mutoh and Daisuke Najima in the GT500 race car.

“Jenson is an extremely talented and experienced driver, and we hope he will have a great race. Hideki Mutoh, Daisuke Nakajima, and Jenson Button is an exciting and formidable driver line-up and we are confident Team Mugen will be able to show its best performance at the final ever Suzuka 1000km,” added Nagataka Tezuka, Team Mugen director.
Much like in Formula 1, Honda has been struggling with Super GT compared to rivals Nissan and Lexus as of late. The team has not won a race since September 2015, with both Mutoh and Nakajima having only scored points once. With Button on board, the team hopes for better results once the retired F1 star starts in the 2017 Suzuka 1000km.
