The Jazz VTEC Media Challenge held its Awards Night last February 9, 2006 to officially close its seventh successful season. Held at the Blue Onion Bar and Restaurant in Eastwood City, the Awards Night was well attended by Honda executives led by president and general manager Takashi Sekiguchi. Also present at the affair was race director Pocholo Ramirez and son Kookie Ramirez. All the guests were feted to a night of food, drinks and lots of laughter courtesy some hecklers, all throughout the awarding proper and the raffle.
The winners, Team Manila Bulletin (Aris Ilagan, Anjo Perez, Popong Andolong and Aaron Favila / first place), Team Philippine Star/SPEED Magazine (Manny de los Reyes, Jeff Reyes, Andy Leuterio, Lester Dizon / second place), Team C! Magazine (James Deakin, Chris Van Hoven, Angelo Puyat and Iňigo Roces / third place), Aris Ilagan (Manila Bulletin / Best Driver), Anjo Perez (Manila Bulletin / second place, individual) and Iňigo Roces (C! Magazine / third place, individual) received trophies, medals and other prizes. Meanwhile, all qualified participants received medals, certificates of participation as well as souvenir photos.
The Jazz VTEC Media Challenge is the seventh incarnation of the Honda Media Challenge, an event aimed at promoting road safety by honing performance and safe driving skills through motor sports, as well as fostering camaraderie among the competitors.
This season, the participants got to hone their driving skills over the four competition rounds using the new Honda Jazz 1.5 VTEC. Participants agreed that the car was fun to drive, and perfect for the Carmona Racing Circuit - the official race venue - due to its agile handling and quick response.
Petron Xtra Unleaded (official fuel of the races) proved its fuel economy without sacrificing power. Its slogan "Go For The Extra Miles," truly inspired the media racers to not only to go the extra miles, but with the fastest possible time. The Goodyear Eagle NCT5 tires also proved itself worthy, taking the screeching starts, hard braking and cornering of the speed-hungry competitors. Its excellent qualities must have been the deciding factor for its choice as the OEM tire for the Jazz 1.5 VTEC.
The Jazz VTEC Media Challenge was also supported by the following sponsors: Igertech for the timing devices, Nodalo's Trading for the racing safety modifications, and Aitech for the car stickers. The club event was sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines (AAP) and organized by ADBM Resources.
