Jann Mardenborough steps up to GP2 this weekend
Mardenborough to enter two rounds of GP2 this year in Monza and Sochi.

GT Academy's 2011 winner, Jann Mardenborough, continues to move up in open-wheel racing. Mardenborough races in several racing disciplines such as LMP1 (Endurance racing), VLN (Sports Car racing) and GP3 with Carlin.
The 23 year old will stand in for Sean Gelael who has a race in the Formula Renault 3.5 Series at Silverstone this weekend. Mardenborough will be racing in Monza this weekend and Sochi a month after with Carlin Racing this season.
“Firstly I’m extremely excited to drive a GP2 car for the first time, it’s an opportunity that I couldn’t turn down. I want to move up to GP2 in the future so to have this experience now is very valuable. I want to be competitive but the challenges in GP2 are very different to GP3; with DRS and two tyres compounds, as well as longer races and pit stops, although I’m used to those from sports car racing. It’s going to be a big step up but I’m going to give it everything. Thanks to Carlin and Nissan for this opportunity.”, said Mardenborough.
Trevor Carlin, owner of Carlin Racing, was happy giving his GP3 driver a chance to move up in open-wheel racing. “Although this will be a big learning curve for him, we’re pleased to give one of our GP3 drivers the opportunity to step up to the next level and will be focused on helping Jann get the most from the experience.”, said Carlin.
Jann Mardenborough is currently in ninth place in the GP3 championship and has scored one podium. Mardenborough has also the completed the 2015 3 Hours of Silverstone in the Blancpain Endurance Series.
