Is Fernando Alonso hunting for a Le Mans win?
Two-time Formula 1 champion Fernando Alonso sets his sights on the World Endurance Championship

Nearly two weeks ago, it was reported that Fernando Alonso will be trying out for the World Endurance Championship. Now, it has been confirmed that the two-time Formula 1 champion just completed over 100 laps in the top-flight LMP1 prototype racer, under the banner of Toyota Gazoo Racing.
The testing was done in Bahrain as part of the World Endurance Championship's 'Rookie Test' day. Alonso, the most experienced of the 'rookies' set a best lap time of 1:43.013, putting him a second and a half behind the lap record in the circuit. It is a particularly strong showing, given that Alonso has only driven the car on that day.

"It was a great day. Testing an LMP1 car is always a nice thing for any racing driver because these cars are amazing to drive. They are very consistent throughout a stint which is a positive thing. I have wanted to test a car like this for a long time now and today I could achieve that so I am happy,” said Alonso.
Prior to this test, Alonso had expressed interest in endurance racing, visiting Le Mans on several occasions. At the moment however, it has yet to be determined when Alonso will be making his endurance racing debut. That said, it appears that he is poised to take on the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the Circuit de la Sarthe.
Also testing that day was Jackie Chan DC Racing’s Thomas Laurent who finished second in the FIA World Endurance Drivers’ Trophy title chase. He completed 31 laps, recording a fastest time of 1:43.273.
