Hyundai's Veloster N TCR is gunning for race car glory

This 2019, Hyundai wants to tear up the world's race tracks. In their bid to get touring car glory, the Korean automaker has unleashed the Veloster N TCR, and it's gunning for the Honda Civic Type R TCR, and Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR, among other cars.

It's based on the road-going version of the Veloster N, but that's where the similarities end. The car has been lowered, widened, and lightened to make it a formidable looking track machine. With its swelled up body, the race-ready Veloster packs a unique suspension, along with other race car goodies such as larger brakes, a roll cage, and of course, a more potent engine.

Powering the race-spec Veloster N is a pumped up version of Hyundai's 2.0-liter turbocharged mill. After all the upgrades, it's good for 350 PS, about the same as its on-track rivals. It then shifts via a sequential manual transmission, and has a fully mechanical limited-slip differential to lay down its power through the front wheels. Bringing it to a halt. meanwhile, are supersized vented discs on all four corners with six-piston calipers in front, and two-piston calipers at the back.

The pumped up Veloster N TCR will make its competition debut at the 2019 International Motor Sports Association (IMSA) Michelin Pilot Challenge. Hyundai will be fielding two cars this year, with driving duties split among four drivers. The veteran team is composed of Michael Lewis and Mark Wilkins and the rookie team will consist of Mason Filippi and Harry Gottsacker, each piloting the second Veloster N TCR.

But if you want a Hyundai Veloster N touring car, you can buy it yourself. Just fork out a princely sum of 135,000 Euros and you might just get it by March this year. Pit crew not included, sadly.
