Hyundai Australia surprises everyone with the unveiling of its Veloster Race Concept car at the Australian Motor Show happening this week at Sydney. Shown in tarmac rally spec, the Veloster was developed by a local shop to comply with FIA and CAMS Australian tarmac rally competition regulations and requirements which hints that it will be competing in Australia next year.

The Veloster Turbo is powered by a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine mated to a six-speed manual transmission gearbox, and a stainless steel high flow exhaust system. The interior was stripped down to make room for Recaro carbon racing seats with multi-point seatbelts, Sparco race steering wheel, an anti-glare dashboard, and an FIA/CAMS compliant roll cage.

The braking system was upgraded with 355mm and 300mm brakes on the front and back respectively. The wheels were replaced with Team Dynamic 18-inches wheels fitted with Pirelli P-Zero Trofeo tires. A four-way adjustable suspension system from DMS was also installed.
Formal announcements of Hyundai Australia's Veloster Race Concept have yet to be announced until early next year although the company have stated that minor modifications on the car can be done for it to be eligible for Australia and Asia Pacific Rally Championship competitions.
